Tips to building a great credit score
If you are just starting out in the financial world, you know there are a lot of things you don’t know about yet. Most young people think that credit is something that is given to you and that you don’t have to earn it. Well the fact of the matter is that you have to earn credit and it is hard to do when no one is going to give you a chance to earn it. There are a few things you can do at a younger age to help you out before you turn 18 and you are out on your own.
One thing you can do to boost your credit score is to have your parents add you to their loans when they get one. By adding your name to the loan, when the loan is paid off the credit score of the loan gets reported to the credit bureaus raising your beginning credit score. The more loans your parents take out and they put your name on them, the higher your credit score will go and making it easier for you to get a loan after you turn of legal age. The higher your credit score is, the easier it will be to get the loan you need later in life.
The other thing you can do is to get a pre-paid credit card. Those are the cards you load up with money and you can only spend the money that’s on the card. That is a good thing to have when you forget you have the money on the card for emergency purposes. As long as you keep depositing money onto that card and spending the money on the card, the card company will report the activity to the credit bureaus and in turn, raising your credit score ever higher.
