Home Business vs. Working from home

There is such a big difference between Home-based businesses and Telecommuting. If you aren't sure how to tell the difference, then it's about time you find out. What's the difference between buying an information package and paying for a job? How can you tell if a home based business is right for you?
What is an independent contractor and why is it called telecommuting if you have lots of employers you work for? The easiest way to describe the differences between home-based businesses and telecommuting jobs is to run a real-world comparison between the internet terms and real-world terms, and provide a description of what each means and how it is distinguished from the others.

Real world term : Job
Internet term : Telecommuting Job, Home-Based Job
Description : A telecommuting (or home-based) job is exactly the same as an onsite job. The only difference is that the location happens to be in your home, rather than at the employer's location.

A true telecommuting job is usually obtained locally, only after you have worked  onsite for a period of time. You are usually expected to come onsite for meetings, or to pick up and drop off your work.  Typically, you are only working offsite because your employer knows you and trusts you after working with you onsite for a while.
This type of job is much more difficult to obtain if you are trying to get hired by a company that has never met you before.

How you are paid?
You are typically paid either an hourly wage or a salary, depending on the job requirements.
Is there a fee?
You will never be asked to pay a fee for a true telecommuting or home-based job, because your status with the company is as a telecommuter or offsite employee.

Real world term : Employee
Internet term :Telecommuter, Offsite employee, Homeworker
Description :A telecommuter (or offsite employee) is an individual that works for a single employer in his or her own home office.  It is exactly the same as being an onsite employee, except the location where the work takes place is in his or her own home office, rather than at the company location.  Typically, you work for a single employer that has previously worked with you onsite.  You have established credibility with your employer by proving yourself tobe a trusted employee onsite.

How you are paid?
You are typically paid either an hourly wage or a salary, depending on the job requirements.
Is there a fee?
You will never pay a fee to be a telecommuter, just as you will never pay a fee to work as an employee.
