How to fix a mistake at work
Man is fallible or so they say. Usually we fix bugs or just forget them and move on. Unfortunately we can not use the same strategy and you have to deal with our errors at the office.
To make a mistake at work can be a problem, that may even lead to your dismissal. The main problems occur when the error directly affect staff or company.
You solve the problem quickly and move on, but this happens only in movies. In everyday life your boss will find out soon and problems will not delay to appear.
Sure, I could tell you to watch and not get in any trouble, but in reality is inevitable and small errors are a reality, not a catastrophe. What you can do is reduce the frequency of errors and accept them when you make mistakes.
But keep in mind one thing: the steps that you do after you wrong will affect your career!
We thought about you and have prepared five steps to repair errors at office:
1. Accept that error
Be the first person who tells the boss that you made an error immediately! Exceptions are cases when the mistake does not affect anyone. Do not try to hide your problem under the carpet, your boss will find out and will lose trust in you.
2. Present the battle plan
You made a major mistake? Well you have to quickly make a plan. So your boss will understand that was an unintended error and you are able to do your job.
3. Do not blame someone else
Don't accuse someone else. Eventually the culprit will be found.
4. Apologize for that error
Yes, admit that you did wrong, apologize and get over.
5. Solve problems during your leisure
Do not expect that the hours spent over the program (to fix the mistake) will be paid. Add additional work during lunch hour or come early to the office. The last thing you need is requesting payment for overtime.
